Course Description

This program involves the study of the principles of basic electrocardiography that prepares the technician to perform non-invasive cardiac testing procedures in a healthcare setting under supervision. It includes basic anatomy and physiology with emphasis on the cardiovascular and respiratory system, as well as interpretation of basic life-threatening arrhythmias. It will teach the student to perform diagnostic procedures at the request of the physician to evaluate and diagnose patients with cardiac disease.

Pre-requisites

A high school diploma or its equivalent, a CPR certification and the attendance of at least one of the following healthcare courses: Nursing Assistant, Phlebotomy, LPN are required.

Medical Billing and Coding

Course Description

This is a beginner’s course for those pursuing a career in medical billing and coding. This course will present descriptions of different career choices and possibilities, introduce concepts, definitions and general programs related to medical health insurance billing, medical and network programs, and will help identify different career avenues in this field.

Pre-requisites:

Knowledge of keyboarding and Introduction to Computers (for Medisoft) are required.

Pharmacy Technician

Course Description

It provides educalion and training leading to entry-level employment and/or advancement for support pharmacy personnel, often designated as “pharmacy technicians.”

Under the supervision of a pharmacist, a pharmacy technician assists in various activities that do not require the professional judgment of a pharmacist, including U maintaining patient records; setting up, packaging, and labeling medication doses; and filling and dispensing routine orders for stock supplies.

Prerequisites

A high school diploma or its equivalency with proficiency in basic math skills is required.

Phlebotomy Technician

Course Description

This course will provide training in Phlebotomy and help students develop the skill to assist a healthcare team in the accurate, safe, and reliable collection and transportation of specimens for clinical laboratory analyses. Blood and other specimen collections are vitally important to the entire health assessment of the patient. Laboratory specimens are used for three (3) important purposes:


  • Diagnostic testing — used to figure out what is wrong with the patient

  • Therapeutic assessment – used to develop the appropriate therapy or treatment of the medical condition

  • Monitoring of the patient’s health status — used to make sure the therapy or treatment is working to alleviate the medical condition

Prerequisites

A high school diploma or its equivalency and a CPR certification (at least one healthcare certification course) are required.
