THE MAKING OF THE BEST LPN SCHOOL

Northwestern Institute of Health and Technology (NWIHT), established in 2000, has developed into what it is today through years of best efforts to become a fruit-bearing tree.

The fertile ground cultivated by its management and faculty bore fruit: the fulfillment of its mission and vision. The result: the graduates are now successful in the challenging fields of healthcare and information technology.

The good seed, the fertile ground and the nurturing leadership are the secrets of NWIHT which we now reveal. On the occasion of its 8th year anniversary, the school is grateful to share with you how we made it to become the best LPN (Licensed Practical Nursing) school in Chicago.

The Seed

The moving spirit behind this success story is Mrs. Jenita P. Julian, the President and Founder of Northwestern Institute of Health and Technology.

Mrs. Julian had a dream, inspired by a “commitment to provide the highest quality and compassionate education.” She established the school with the vision to empower students with skills that provide them the competitive advantage and to train them to become skilled, competent and compassionate professionals. Her commitment to a mission and vision was a seed that had the unlimited potential of realization and growth.

The Fertile Ground

Healthcare and Information Technology are both wide open fields. Training in these disciplines addresses the nation’s current educational and industry needs, drives workforce development, and caters to the health concerns of individuals and families.

The opportunity to expand career options in healthcare provided the fertile ground for cultivation. A number of the students aspiring for this expansion started way back earlier with the school when NWIHT offered the short-term Allied Health courses.

Furthermore, the members of the administrative staff and faculty make the ground fertile too. The members of the management team are experts in their respective fields. Instructors possess the needed educational experiences that enrich the teaching-learning dynamics. The school gives premium to the quality of its human capital and to the enhancement of skills and knowledge through a staff development program.

The culture of the organization is determined by the philosophy and beliefs expressed in values that regulate relationships and behavior. It promotes professionalism, integrity, respect, teamwork and academic excellence. The work setting strictly observes the non-discriminatory policy, disdains acts of harassment and violence, respects privacy, values heath and safety as it is a smoke and drug-free institution.

A Nurturing Leadership

The school’s management focuses on a continuous improvement of the quality of instruction on line with the demands in the fields and in response to the needs of the disciplines. Inputs of students, instructors and the community are valuable references for benchmarks towards achievement of both organizational and teaching-learning effectiveness.

Service is quality, and also a way of life and the way students are treated. The members of our staff and faculty “walk through the entire path with students”, from the moment they enroll and graduate, lead them up to the final locations in their careers.

Services to students start from day one and reach out to them in their post-study endeavors. Recently, the plan to organize the alumni association is being organized. NWIHT offers an integrated and comprehensive guidance and counseling program that facilitates academic achievement, career planning, and the total development of the person.

The First Fruits of the Seed

The pioneering batch of Practical Nursing students has successfully surpassed the NLCEX-PN exam and they are now Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), at the rate beyond our expectations.

The Director of Nursing Education, Ms. Kimberly Hollowell, whose unparalleled dedication is pervasive, deserves to enjoy the first fruits of the harvest.

The harvest is plentiful, and the tree will bear more. The seed that was planted and nourished became a fruit-bearing tree. The first eight years of its existence have been fruitful: the next eight years will definitely be more abundant.

From a seed, NWIHT has become a full-grown tree. In the near future, we will plant more trees. Higher academic programs or courses are in the planning stages.

NWIHT is an open house. Everyone is welcome to visit anytime from Monday to Friday, 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. It is about time to get to know the best LPN school in Chicago, and learn how to be part of it.

2007, the year that was . . .
By Jeanne Tanos-Garcia

Memorable is how we can best describe the year 2007.

Why not? 2007 brought a lot of good memories for Northwestern Institute of Health and Technology, its students, faculty, staff and administration. 2007 was a year of an abundance of work that was well rewarded. 2007 brought challenges on a day-to-day basis, with kinks ironed out after careful planning and intervention. 2007 was the year we graduated our very first batch of Practical Nursing students, all thirty four (34) of them! 2007 was also the year one-third (1/3) of them took and passed the NCLEX-PN Exam.

Some of the more important milestones we received in 2007 include the following:
1) Approval of the Student and Exchange Visitor Program, allowing School Attendance by Nonimmigrant Student by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in November 2007

2) Illinois Approved Manual Skills Evaluator from the Illinois Department of Public Health in , allowing Basic Nurse Assistants to remediate their course prior to the Certification Exam (November 2007)

3) Current Nursing Practice Remedial Course (LPN) from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in July 17, 2007

4) Articulation Agreement with the City Colleges of Chicago in April 16, 2007, allowing our licensed Practical Nursing students to apply for an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) completion program with the City Colleges of Chicago

Looking back, 2007 was not created overnight although we can justly say “it was an overnight success.” 2007 is the product of eight (8) years of intuitive, ingenious hard work inspired by loyal, competent and eligible faculty, staff and administration personnel.

So, let’s give a toast to all the people behind 2007’s success! Cheers!

As we celebrate Northwestern Institute of Health & Technology’s eight (8) year anniversary, we dedicate all our success to our students, because all we do is all for you!
